Happy Easter Everyone!
A Season of Change!
Spring has always been my favorite season. The days are longer, the sun is shining and the birds are starting to sing. As you go for your morning walk, you can smell the freshness in the air and see the trees/flowers begin to blossom. Nature is awaking from its long cold winter.
This particular spring seem to be full of new beginnings for many. The time has come to say farewell to an old life and start building on new dreams and hopes.
Starting over can entail many different things; a new job, a new baby, a new relationship, a new home etc. It can be exciting time, an opportunity to learn more about your self, to set new goals and to build on your strengths. It can also be a chance to meet new people and make new memories.
For some, starting over can also be a little overwhelming. Emotions of sadness and fear may take over, making it difficult to embrace the excitement of the new beginning. Saying goodbye to places or people that have special meaning to us can be hard.
Personally, it is easier to embrace change when it something I want and am ready for. For example, moving into my apartment 14 years ago was a little scary but it was something I had wanted since childhood.
When some of my friendships ended, it was sad loosing life long friends but I realized that sometimes people drift apart. Cherish the good times and grow from the lessons learned.
Recently, there have been some changes in my life that have brought me happiness, while others have caused mixed feelings.
Becoming a first time Aunt has brought me so much joy. Seeing his smiling cute little face fills my heart.
Within the last few months, my brothers and I have decided to close a chapter in our lives. We have decided the time has come to move on!
It was a difficult choice to make, letting go of our childhood. It feels as if we are saying goodbye to our parents once again. And yet we know and are committed to remain a family and cherish our memories.
Bring Awareness
As a Peer Trainer for the Women with Disabilities Program at Springtide Resources, I sit on committees bring forward issues facing women with disabilities who have experienced abuse.
Recently, I joined a committee that is looking at how poverty affects people with disabilities.
Thru the poverty working group, we are hoping to make our government aware that people receiving assistance from the Ontario Disabilities Support Program (ODSP) are living below the poverty line. Our goal is to come up with recommendations on ways to improve ODSP and set up a meeting with Members of Parliament to discuss our recommendations.
Lucky # 9
Do you have a number that seems to bring you luck. I am starting think the # 9 is lucky for me. On Sept 9th my nephew was born, on March 9th I turned 40 and on April 9th I got my new Scooter.
I should go down to Casino Rama sometime soon and place a bet on lucky #9. One never knows!
I went to Casino Rama last weekend with some girlfriends and beg $5 on #9 and lost. Oh well, at least I tried!
Do You Ever Wonder?
Do you ever wonder what it means to be happy, really happy?
Many have said being happy comes from within, that we are in control of our own happiness.
Happiness is an emotion that makes one feel good. When a person is happy, they are smiling, laugh and have positive out look on life! Believing anything is possible!
Can others determine our happiness? I am not sure that one person can make other happy. It may not be about that particular person pre say, it's more about the way we react to them or to the situation. For example, when I am around somebody that is happy then I'll pick up on that energy and start to feel happy.
Now when we are unhappy it may be about again, our reaction to the situation. For example, if you want to hang out with a person and he/she always says no, we tend to get upset. We feel rejected and taking personally. Try not to take it personally, remember those that don't want to hang out with you, they are missing out!!!
I like to believe that we are in control of our happiness and that we for most part choose how to react to things and people's attitudes.
